In WoW, few things are more annoying than a really long queue.
I swear I join LFR at the exact time that everyone’s on their daily FF14 break.
Though it doesn’t kill me, personally. Because when I queue, I’m usually in Stormwind. And in Stormwind I can squeeze out a few extra minutes either shopping at the auction house, repairing my equipment, or trying on new mogs at The Three Winds.
And after those options are used up, there are even more places in the city that, while less functional, definitely warrant more than one revisit during your lifetime. (Orgrimmar has plenty too, but we’ll go over those later.)
Nowadays, most people just stick to the Trade District when they’re in the city, and with fair reason. It does have all your most necessary vendors and NPCs are conveniently grouped in one place.
But once you’ve completed your main chores, a short walk outside the Trade District will reveal a plethora of picturesque spots that are great for waiting, roleplaying, or just taking five.
These places appeal to me a lot. When my daily gameplay feels repetitive, it’s always nice to take an occasional break from the group finder and and just revisit local spots I like.
So whether you’re an average Alliance dog, or a Hordie interested in how the other side lives, these are my six favorite spots to kill time in Stormwind.
Queen Tiffin Wrynn’s Grave
In the cemetery next to Arthas’ Tomb the Lordaeron memorial lies the decorated tomb of the late Queen of Stormwind.
She famously died from a squarely-thrown rock during the Stormwind Riots. Her memorial is adorned with a heartfelt plaque and two large lion statues that guard her eternal resting place.
If you think cemeteries are creepy, this spot probably won’t be your first pick. But with the beautiful evergreen flower wreaths and calming shade of the oak trees, this location is undeniably serene.
The Park in Stormwind Keep
If you prefer a royal location that’s a little less depressing, you can head to Stormwind Keep.
The rebuilding of Stormwind tragically eliminated many of the original rooms found in the Classic version of the keep. But it still holds a few interesting corridors and characters to capture your explorative interest today. However, my favorite spot here is the park in the north wing.
It’s typically empty, quiet, and offers a lovely view of the Eastern Earthshine. It’s also a great place for a sunset picnic!
The Stormwind Gazebo
Directly behind the Stormwind Cathedral you’ll find a decorated gazebo. I imagine this is where many nobles have been married, and many people host marriage RP’s.
It’s a quaint place to sit and read, have some lunch, or finally organize your backpack.
I’ve always loved hanging out here, because I think it’s one of the cutest decorative spots in the city. I’m a total slut for supplementary worldbuilding (which is why I adore Boralus).
The Romantic Picnic in the City Outskirts
Whether you’re by yourself or with company, this is a super cute place to kill time. In fact, the city outskirts has received a lot of really cool additions since its facelift back in Legion.
It’s a nice spot to take pictures and enjoy a chilled glass of wine while waiting for your group. It’s also about as out-of-the-way as you can get without leaving the city.
Plus the blanket is so oversized, you could fit a whole raid group on it. (Though I wouldn’t recommend that.)
The Far Dock in the Shipyard
Even if you play WoW daily, chances are you haven’t been to the shipyard in a hot minute. You know, where they store the half-done ships they’ve been building for IDK-how-many expacs?
I was in that boat too (get it?) until a few days ago when I got bored waiting for my ship. That’s when I re-discovered this cute little dock at the far end of the shore.
It’s got an unparalleled view of the lighthouse, and you’ll have some company too.
A dockworker named Steve Allen comes here frequently to take breaks from working. I tried to talk to him, but he never seems to be in a very good mood.
The Well in the Mage Quarter
Unless you’re a frequent patron of The Slaughtered Lamb, you probably haven’t visited this well in a while.
Since the Legion pre-patch event, nothing major in the storyline has ever brought players back to this part of the Mage Quarter. But regardless, this is my all-time favorite location to kick back in Stormwind.
It’s empty, peaceful, and honestly very pretty.
Cold drinks, firework vendors, and nice ocean views are all just a stone’s throw away from this spot. (And what a combination that can make on a Tuesday night.)
Plus, the whole district is saturated in a potent magic essence that keeps all the grass green and fresh throughout the year.
